36 years of building technology in Alaska.
Finite Technologies was founded in 1990 as an engineering software company, with a grant from the Alaska Science and Technology Foundation. We’ve been building software, networks and online services ever since, and we’re still Alaskan-owned by the same family.
From engineering software to SaaS
Software applications have always been the core of the company. Along the way we’ve built, and sometimes sold, businesses across a large part of the technology industry, and that experience is what we bring to every client.
FTI is founded
Scott Henderson starts Finite Technologies as an engineering software company, founded with a grant from the Alaska Science and Technology Foundation (ASTF). Software has been the core of the company ever since.
Online before the Internet opened to business
While selling FTIDOE, our commercial version of the DOE-2 building energy simulation software from U.S. government research, FTI goes online in the Internet’s early days, before it opened up to business.
Internet for Alaska
Our Internet company, FTSC, begins providing Internet and data network services statewide under the arctic.net name.
FTSC joins TelAlaska
TelAlaska acquires FTSC in September 1998, and it becomes TelAlaska NetWorks.
IBeX development begins
FTI starts building IBeX, the communications software that now runs our own services and those of providers worldwide.
IBeX version 1 launches
The first release of IBeX goes into service.
IBeX OS and the IBeXc cloud platform
The IBeX operating system and IBeX switches arrive, and IBeXc launches as our hosted platform, putting our own software to work every day.
Fourth-generation IBeX
In the first quarter of 2026, IBeX launches its fourth generation of switch operating system.
Software, SaaS and managed IT
IBeX, IBeXc, OpCnTr, Lunnul and managed IT services, with AI built into how we work.
Experience from across the industry
FTIDOE
Our first commercial application: FTI’s commercial version of DOE-2 building energy simulation software, sold around the world and running on VMS, DOS, Windows, Unix, Ultrix and AIX.
Finite Technology Service Corporation (FTSC)
From 1995, statewide Internet and data network services under the arctic.net name: dial-up, leased lines and frame relay, with a focus on corporate and VPN solutions. Sold to TelAlaska in 1998, becoming TelAlaska NetWorks.
ResponseNet
Software and services for large-scale corporate crisis management. Our primary client was British Petroleum, for its Alaska oil-spill response. ResponseNet closed in 2001 as technology and the market changed.
MacroPhage
Medical information management and collaboration software. FTI was a primary investor and designed and developed the mPhi system.
VirtualE.cc
Outside engineering for technology, networks and network security. VirtualE has since merged back into FTI as our network engineering and support group.
ChillyWall
A security appliance our engineers built for early generations of Astaro Security Linux. ChillyWall is retired; its lineage continues in the Sophos security we deploy today.
Scott Henderson, President
Scott is an engineer and mathematician who has founded and built five companies. Before starting Finite Technologies in 1990, he worked on engineering projects across Alaska, the rest of the United States and Russia, from oil refineries and airport facilities to structural analysis and design, and wrote custom engineering software along the way.
Engineer and software architect
Finite element analysis, structural design and engineering software were the starting point for FTI.
Founder of five companies
Including FTSC, ResponseNet and SimuFlight, an aviation company he ran for a number of years.
Leading FTI today
Oversees the IBeX platform, FTI’s software products and its managed IT services.
Experience you can put to work
We’ve seen it before
We’ve been online since 1993, before the Internet opened up to business, and have worked through every major shift since, from the cloud to AI. We know what lasts.
We build what we sell
Our products are designed and written by our own engineers, and we run them ourselves.
We’re here
Alaskan-owned, with local support and a help desk that answers 24/7.
Work with a team that’s been doing this since 1990
Whether it’s our software or your IT, we’d like to hear what you’re working on.
